Also a few of the game's keyboard setting seem wrong keys are typing the wrong letter, in the "Enter your name" section before the game begins.

You probably have disabled splash screen options in whdload.prefs.
Game works fine with splash options as is.

About the keyboard settings.
I noticed the game looks for Devs/Keymaps/usa1 during boot from a barebones hdf with only the needed stuff to run.

French use AZERTY so QWERTY layout probably isn't a good idea to use for Fr version.
