Lionheart shows flickering background graphic if you set a joypad button combo as QuitKey
As for Midnight Resistance: I've mapped the quitkey ($11a) to the CD32 pad (Play+FW+RW). Strangely the background graphics right in level 1 starts to flicker horribly. Is this fixable somehow? Latest slave.

WHDLoad and the slave use their own routine for the cd32 buttons in the vbl interrupt and it takes some scanlines. Lionheart will not have all free time to display the gradient colors.

You can try to add novbrmove option for this game, it will disable the cd32 buttons read from whdload.

By default, there is only one quitkey (keyboard or cd32 buttons).

If you set for example quitkey=93 (PrtSc) in Lionheart tooltypes icon with old slave, you can quit with keyboard and cd32 buttons and still have quitkey=$116 in global preferences (and no need novbrmove).

Local options overwrite global options.

I extracted it and it doesn't create a sub directory. It extracted in the main folder. (Not critical, but the standard).
After clicking install and follow the instructions the installer copies the files but doesn't call any imager. This part simply is missing in the script. So you have the copies installer files but no image what leads to the problem that you can't use it cause there was no diskimage created while installing.

The highest score on my scoretable was 57800. I had a quick look at the highscores and there was a duplicate score of 57800 with my initials. I didn't remember getting the same score twice.
So i played the game and got a whoppin' 69500 highscore! The old 57800 would be placed second now right? Nope! The game duplicated my new highscore of 69500 so it's now 1st & 2nd also. And the old one 57800 is now 3rd.

The game disk has no protection, it's plain AmigaDOS track format.

You can use IPF 670, it's the same version as mine.

DIC is enough, RAWDIC only if you plan to install the game as real files.

If I use DIC to image the disk manually, the existing install seems to run fine under WinUAE at least.

The install script needs updating as a bare minimum to use DIC, so I will at least do that. Source could do with updating to use modern WHDL 18 anyway, so I'll rework that too.

I've copied the install I made from the SPS version to my real Amiga, and it still starts just fine.

Could I ask you to please upload your disk image and we can go from there? As I think I will need to compare what you are getting when you use DIC to image the disk.

Also worth checking what happens if you start with MMU enabled, as that may reveal more detail.

I already tried with MMU SNOOPOCS CHK and that does cause an issue with reading from INTREQ write register - so something for me to fix at least.

I managed to get it to hang with 68040-based WinUAE config. There's a duff wait for a VBL interrupt that reads from INTREQ instead of INTREQR when the game first starts.

Plenty of other stuff to fix though...

Progress update: I've found and fixed the self-modifying code. Several branch and arithmetic instructions modified as the game unpacks its data.

Also a few missing blitter waits added.

Going to see if the game code can be relocated to fast memory next...
(I suspect "not easily", because there are a lot of hardcoded addresses.)

The need for Phalanx to be cycle-exact on faster machines
Phalanx runs to quickly on faster clock machines. This is noticable at the loading stage and throughout the game.
Always happens on an 030 of differeing speeds.
WinUAE has a uae-config: cycle-exact type option but on a real machine we are without it.

2 issues:
first the slave looks for "test.exe" but on itch the exe name is different.
After renaming, it works on WinUAE but access fault on real amiga. Plus quitkey doesn't work.
It's a known issue: with winuae, modifying the VBR isn't detected by MMU, but on a real machine it is detected.
You probably forgot to remove a MOVEC VBR,DO somewhere in the slave.

About the Test.exe file, It depends on the version you are using. In feet, depending on the version downloaded (all in v3.5), the name of the EXE file changes.
On the ADF version, Test.exe is used while on the WHD, CD ISO and HD versions, DevilsTemple.exe is used.

Access fault doesn't happen either with WHDLoad 16.0 or 16.4. Also level 5 boss graphics are distorted (tested with WHDLoad 16.0)

With WHDload 17 beta [build 4874] there was no access fault (i completed the game! :) But level 5 boss (before Lucifer) still has graphic bugs.

Strangely now with WHDLoad 16.9 [build 4672] i was able to normally finish the game without ANY glitches whatsoever. So i think case closed :).

I think future testing of WHDLoad slaves should be done with a clean cold-start of computer because there can be memory trashing that crashes games (creating exceptions etc.)

After i move from "DH2:GamesWHD/PortsOfCall" to "DH2:PortsOfCall" i could get a saving a Game and load it :-)
It shine's to be freeing now up too the memory without a problem

Know it would be very nice first step to make it better, the Mousespeed get more
on my OS3.9 Workbench with Kick 3.X i use the fastest to click plus Acceleration
That would be so greatful to use inGame with this slave :-)

WHDLoad reports error when trying to run Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge
Error when trying to run Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge.
I have a retail floppy disk of Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge as part of the Lotus Trilogy boxed set. Using Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge installer version 1.1. Install process seems to work fine but as soon as I try to run the game I get the following error:

Function 'resload_DiskLoad' called with unacceptable arguments A0 = $42790007
PC = $BDFD7F4 (Slave $2D4).

Floppy disk is in great condition, has no errors and has been thoroughly tested as working.

I have attached dump. Let me know if there is any other info required.

I am actually running this on a Raspberry Pi 400 using the latest Amikit

I am actually running this on a Raspberry Pi 400 using the latest Amikit software and the latest Amiberry emulator. The game actually runs fine on Amiberry as long as you run the game from IPF files. The problem occurs on WHDLoad only and on Amikit running in Amiberry running on a Raspberry Pi 400.
This is the issue:
The game loads fine with no problems.
We get to the intro screen with no problems, looks fine.
We press fire to get to the game screen, big problem.
I'll try my best to describe it, short of taking a photo.
The music is playing fine.
There is no game screen - no sprites - no background.
But - there is the bottom score board panel.
It is stretched right to the top of the screen.
So it basically takes up the whole the screen - there is no main playfield or sprites. Just the bottom playfield which is stretched to fill the entire screen.

Two issues if a global Quitkey=$11a (Play+FW+RV) is set:

1. With CD32 controls enabled the Quitkey button combo doesn't work
2. Without CD32 controls only directions works, none of the buttons work.

For Rainbow Islands, you are right. I found other games where a local set keyboard quitkey is a working workaround, like Alien Breed or Desert Strike.

But for Arabian Knights it doesn't work. Slave needs an update for that.

The CD32 WHDLoad version is indeed fine. Enhanced CD32 controls are working as expected, and the Joypad button quit too. It's only the disk version with problems as it seems.

Midnight Resistance crash after title screen, when a CD32 joypad button combo for Quitkey set
Tested some games with Quitkey=$11a which is a CD32 pad Start+FW+RW button combo. Midnight Resistance always crashes after the title screen is shown (no WHDLoad error message). Happens on real hardware, emulation and the Mister Minimig Core.

Any chance for a fix? A normal keyboard quitkey is fine though.

Since this slave has built in CD32 support, special quitkeys should not be used (same as Rainbow Islands), as they will conflict. Although the crash is unusual, I don't think this is really a slave problem here.

After playing Bloodnet Aga for a while I Always get exception ( Access fault).

Also there appears some graphic garbage on the screen.
With BloodnetAga Slave version 2.0 I got similar Access faults, too ( Expmem related); but didn't get any graphics corruption.
Usually just standard AmigaDos requester " Out of memory".
So, with the most recent Slave version I think the problem has gone worse.
I guess it may not be easy; but I hope the Slave could be
corrected for 060 processors ( and maybe the 32 bit memory could also be possible cause !?).
I do own the original game, but I 'm pnly able to play it
from Dos, without startup-sequence loaded.
The original game generally runs just fine,
but I would prefer to play the WHDload version from WB.
I do have so many WHDload games installed on my hard drive,
and Most of them run just fine.
The Bloodnet Aga is one of the few that give Always errors.

I found something like this:
BodyBlows_v1.0_AGA_HD_JOTD
Unfortunately, this is not the whdload version. After setting the parameters in UAE, the game and the TIMER itself work perfectly. However, my system works with JIT, so the game itself is tttooooo fast. Manual setup is quite a pain every time. As for the whdload version on a real Amiga, a game above 020 will surely work for UAE - too fast. Without Timer, the game is pointless, you don't know what you get points for and when the fight is over.
I am posting an HD version which has files instead of a floppy disk image. Maybe it could be made into whdload.

I found the problem. The game displays the graphics correctly in the lores and hires modes. In superhires it causes artifacts and screen flickering.

resload_SaveFileOffset causes file corruption if NOWRITECACHE used
While looking at an old patch for Chuck Yeager AFT 2.0, I noticed that the disk image becomes corrupted when the game/slave tries to save data using resload_SaveFileOffset, if NOWRITECACHE is enabled.

If write cache is enabled, the data saves just fine when WHDLoad exits. The issue seems to be with swapping to OS to do an immediate save.

On further investigation, the issue affects all WHDLoad versions from 18.4 onwards - 18.3 does NOT exhibit this issue (nor does 18.0 which I also tested).

The data stored seems to be mostly random garbage, although it sometimes has interesting results such as the attached screenshot - the WHDLoad filenames present are from LZX that I had just run to extract an older version of WHDLoad as part of my investigation, which may mean the memory being saved to disk is being overwritten by the OS restore?
1. Load Chuck Yeager AFT 2.0 install, with NOWRITECACHE enabled
2. In game, open menu with ESC, select Missions -> Demo Flight
3. Wait for OS swaps to save to disk.
4. Exit, and load Disk.1 into a hex editor
5. Locate offset $DAA00 (where game saves data) - notice the random garbage that has replaced the data that should be there.

A1 being close to the end of basemem is interesting - I'm fairly sure I had this same issue months ago patching another game. I was using spare memory close to the end of basemem to save some data, and getting corruption. At the time I just thought it was a WinUAE oddity though, so I changed the slave to use a lower chipmem address and didn't dig deeper.

I'm unable to reproduce your problem, neither with ChuckYeager nor with some synthetic tests.
But I found a bug which corrupts io operations when the used memory lies completely in ShadowHi memory. But this is not the case in your trace where ShadowHi is unused. It also doesn't match that FullChip should avoid the problem.

Can you please try if the attached WHDLoad fixes your problem?
If not please make a trace file and attach it.

Tested on both my WinUAE and real Amiga setups.

Would you like me to do any further checks? If the change shouldn't really have fixed the problem it might be useful to know why it worked anyway.

Well it's more you mention the fix pertains to ShadowHi but my trace indicated ShadowHi was not used. I was wondering if something might be wrong there - perhaps ShadowHi is being used and misreported by trace?

Either way I'm glad the fix has worked, so I'm happy if you're happy. :-)

No, the trace function is correct.
Was the trace really from a run where the Save corrupted the file?
The fix/bug was located in a virtual function which handles all io functions. So all read/write operations were affected. If you use only NoWriteCache then only write operations are affected because all reads will go through the filecache. Using NoFileCache also reads should be affected in the non fixed WHDLoad.

I ran the trace up to the point WHDL writes to the file, then exited. I then confirmed corruption in the resulting file.

I will try a trace on my real Amiga tonight (using unfixed WHDL) and see if that yields a different result.

Without FullChip the save lies inside Hi.
With FullChip a larger block is choosen for AbsMem which is located above $80000 and so the save lies inside Lo and the bug is not active.
The first trace was misleading.

Documentation issue with options 'ExecutePreDisk' and 'ExecutePostDisk'
Options 'ExecutePreDisk' and 'ExecutePostDisk' are not entirely clear to me. I have tested them and ExecutePostDisk seems to execute just before the Workbench disappears (just before the game appears), and ExecutePreDisk executes immediately after the game quits (as soon as Workbench appears again).

I understand that ExecutePreDisk and ExecutePostDisk are separate from ExecuteStartup (executes before Splash appears) and ExecuteCleanUp (executes even if the escape key was pressed, and of course after the game ends if loaded). I like all these 4 options, I find them useful. The docs on ExecutePreDisk and ExecutePostDisk are unclear to me however, and their descriptions appear to be reversed from what actually happens. I just find it confusing really. Also, those two options were introduced in version 17.0, and yet I can find no reference to them in the History.txt file or html history. The history docs needs fixing in that respect, and a little more explanation as to what those options actually do would be better. I read them and it leads me to believe that everytime WHDLoad goes back to the OS to load files (like if memory short and screen flashing occurs) that one of those two options will be executed, or when saving games, but it doesn't do that at all. Those two options just work at the beginning and at the end of actual game execution.

I've fixed the behavior.
The functions are now called as intended/documented, before/after switch between OS and installed program.

I also added a not to the docs regarding that these commands must not cause any gfx output as intuition base is locked. Otherwise system will hang!

Arctic Fox Graphics Problem
Arctic Fox fails to display it's menu when run in emulation. The EA splash screen loads and then the screen just stays blue. You can hear the music in the background and the game will respond to key inputs but no image is displayed.
Run Arctic Fox in any emulator.
You can get around the problem by running the game with immediate blits and reverting back to Cycle Exact - 2x CPU Speed from the WinUAE options after the Dynamix screen has loaded. If you keep immediate blits turned on, the main part of the game fails to load after the main menu.

I've also tried with NOCACHE, NOMMU and NOVBRMOVE on the icon but the solution above is the only way I could get it to run.

Very long loading times with network connected
Lately I'm using roadshow, enabled at startup.
I've resolved the crash/freeze/recoverable alerts problems using 0004091 advices.
Now it work fine, no crash or freeze, but very long loading times, and for long I mean something like 2 minutes and more, then whdload splash screen comes up and everything works as expected, no crash during the game, no crash on exit.

During loading time, I can browse the net without problems, everything works as expected. The connection stops as soon as the whdload splash screen comes up.
Maybe configuring whdload.prefs, WHDLoad-Cleanup and WHDLoad-Startup as Paul Head did in the 0004091 (except for the wireless part, i'm using an ethernet card).
Amiga 1200 with blizzard 1260+scsi module, ateobus bridgeboard, rtg pixel64 with 2mb ram, nic ateonet. Rom 3.2.1, Wb 3.2.1.

The very same issue occurs on my friend's Amiga 3000 with network card.

To help Wepl, how are you loading the game?
Are you clicking on the game icon from Workbench or are you using a game launcher?
Is the delay with all games?
Whilst the delay is ongoing is there any hard drive activity on that drive (Drive LED or SnoopDOS)?
I'll be honest though it does sound like it's to do with the network checking of slave updates. From memory, I turned off that feature because I had a problem with it loading my web browser after there was little memory left (because of preload) and hence my machine was starved of ram and it was pointless trying to browse the slave update page etc...So it's 'NoNetwork' for me in my WHDLoad.prefs file.

I'm using latest igame, but there's no differences between loading through the frontend or directly from the slave.

The delay is the same with every game (i tried at least 20). In very rare occasions everything works as expected, but only after a cold boot.

No drive activity.

I have 96mb of fast ram, so the memory quantity surely is not the problem here.
While the game is "loading" i can browse the net or exchange files with my pc through FTP, so I think that the network is working properly.

Been a while since I read that old 0004091 issue. I think Wepl was correct, PoolMem with Roadshow issue. I don't go on that Amiga very much now, but I am kind of intrigued myself as to whether that fault still exists or not without the Wait command (with new WHDLoad versions and Roadshow etc). I'll revisit it one of these days and add another post if it's fixed.

Anyway, onto your issue again...have you tried the NoNetwork option which turns off the slave update check?

I remember now the reason I use NoNetwork was because of Chip RAM starvation (consumed by heftier slaves (AGA for example) and then IBrowse was loaded...not a great combo). This may seem a childish question, but you do have plenty of free Chip RAM right? When this '2 min delay' is occurring, do you have plenty of free Chip RAM (graphics memory in Workbench). I say this because your RTG browsing doesn't need Chip RAM, but WHDLoad certainly does.

Also, you say crash/freeze/alert problems in your original report. What was causing this issue and how did you solve it? Do you use either Roadshow or PoolMem like me, or both?

Nonetwork works as it should, no problems at all. Instant loading after whdload info window.

The os uses very little chip ram (there's 2.009.296 graphics mem free after wb loading), and it goes down to 1.993.776 in the "loading" part, then it takes what needed to launch the game.

I do not use poolmem.

It's hard for me and my little knowledge to give the dev some detailed report, so I'm giving up. Of course it's not a problem running whdload without the version check at start, but I'm very curious on the origin of the problem...

The delay is probably caused by WHDLoad waiting for an answer to his network access. Maybe it cannot resolve the address or there is another problem with your network setup.
You can use option TRACE for further diagnostics. WHDLoad will then write a file called .whdl_trace. Look into this to see if there is a network error reported.

I have tried it out and it doesn't appear to create the trace file unless I specify a CoreDumps path.

You're very welcome! Now fire up your Amiga and use this TRACE option.
It's easy, just select a game which has the long delay going (any game I believe), select the game icon once with left mouse click and go into the Icon Information in the Icons Menu in Workbench...what we'll do here is just add a ToolType called TRACE. Once entered, select save and load the game up with a double-click. Wait for the game to appear and then quit it and examine the file created which is stored in your "CoreDumpsPath=...." (editable in S:WHDLoad.prefs). The trace file is called ".whdl_trace". I just tried it out here and it works fine. It's only a few KB in size so easy to upload here. Well, when you have a spare few minutes of course ;-)

A500 / ACA 500+ / ACA1234 / X-Surf500 (AmiTCP).

In fact, even the first call of the update URL via a browser leads to time-out, but a reload of the URL then works.
At the same time, however, a ping to the host is possible, i.e. name resolution and route are correct.
I do not have an explanation for this behavior...

There is a problem since the website has moved to a new server in Dec 2022.
Since then the webserver does not support http-connections with a remote port of 1024. These connections will timeout. A subsequent connection using port 1025 then works. If you start WHDLoad, as the first application opening a tcp connection, the tcpip-stack usually uses the first non reserved port which is 1024. Then WHDLoad will hang because of this tcp-timeout.
I'm in the process to relocate the website to another datacenter without this problem, as the current webhoster seems to be unable to fix this problem.
In the meantime you may try to start anything, which opens a tcp-connection, prior to start WHDLoad, to avoid the problem.

resload_Listfiles doesn't work with PRELOAD
Starting with WHDLoad 18.7 resload_Listfiles doesn't work correctly if PRELOAD is used. This renders the patch for Gauntlet 3 (see 0006066) unusuable as the game can't be started. The same problem still happens in WHDLoad 18.8. If the option PRELOAD is not used, resload_Listfiles works and the game can be started.
Run the Gauntlet 3 patch with option PRELOAD, an error message will be shown ("File not found, check installation!").
Problem doesn't appear in WHDLoad version < 18.7. It may also only happen if all files can be preloaded (but this is just a guess, I have not tested this).

When running the slave on OS 3.2 or higher (3.2.1) I get the following error after the loading:

File not found, check installation!

When checking the loading with SnoopDos all files load OK, there are no failed loads.

When running the same installation on KS 3.1 it runs without any problems.

As the title states, the demo consistently crashes with the above error message on my ACA 1233n 030/42Mhz/128Mb:

ab sekunde 34-1:22 betroffen, bzw sehr glitchy, je nach konfig.
(auf WinUAE hab ich diese stelle nur unter kick1.3 korrekt hinbekommen)
Das ist auch der zeitraum wo normalerweise der diskwechsel passieren soll.
Wie gesagt, in WinUAE is das super glitchy auf 3.1 und 68020.
Auf echter hardware (A600-A1200) auch immer etwas tricky.
So bleibt auf der echten hardware der sich drehende würfel mit dem tanzenden mädchen gerne stehen...(szene 1:14-122)
für ca 2 sekunden bevor das kanji zeichen erscheint.
Nicht die schuld von WHDload,
wär lässig wenn du dir das villeicht mal anschaun könntest.
Zeit ist halt immer so eine sache.
Wie auch immer, alles liebe und RIESEN dank für WHDLoad,
die essentiellste Amiga software jenseits des ROMS ;)

Could not reproduce this problem on any of my machines, but found other problems with the existing patch and updated it. Patch now works with 0.5 MB chip memory and 0.5 MB other memory, all line drawing routines have been fixed, OSemu is no longer needed etc. pp.

Is there a way to use CACHE, that would be neat !!! - It is so sloooooooooow XD
I love this game but it is so slooooooooow.
Tried the CACHE function. Nothing, same tempo.

Is there a way to make it more smooth. (to use CACHE)
Or even a Speed option .. basically how fast/smooth it should be.

If cache doesn't speed up the game at all, I'm afraid there is no easy solution for speeding up the game. I will have a look at the code but don't expect a fix soon, if at all.

This game (ADF) is not working with uae3ds emulator (in hangs on title screen).
It's not possible to use HDF versions, only ADF.

Import of saved tactic is not working
Functionality of saving and loading tactics is not working.
Steps to reproduce

start the game
click on edit tactics
choose user A for example
you will see the screen with the players and field , move cursor to the field and above one of the player and click and move couple of players up or down or whatever
go to save - you will get the notice that tactics is changed
save tactics under some name
All good so far.
then go again to edit tactics
choose user a tactic for example
click on import
go to load
choose tactics file that you saved

Expected result : positions of the players on the field is the same as you saved it
Actual result : all of the players are placed on right down positions on the field. in edit tactic name on that screen there is some garbage character in the name , to me looks like right offset from the file is not read or something but that is just my wild guess.

Towards the end you see I load the newly saved "Dom 1.TAC" both directly, and then using iMPORT/LOAD.

After the second one all players appear in the bottom right.

I haven’t looked into this properly but I notice other load routines are patched in the code via:

    PL_PS $51a5e,Load_Season
    PL_PS $51c1e,Load_Season ;Load Highlights!


Perhaps the tactics load routine isnt patched at all as it should be? There is no equivalent for the tactics load in the source code

This could be loading 0000 data, which might explain why the players all get squashed into the corner.

I am not very adept with disk routines but if JOTD is busy i will try and find time to check this possibility

Joypad combo as quitkey isn't working
According to the readme the joypad quitkey combo is RW+RV+Green. But this isn't working here. Could you map it to Play+FW+RV anyway, and make sure that it also works with a global set quitkey=$11 (i know, the workround for avoiding button conflicts would be a local keyboard quitkey then). Thanks!

Pressing the "Play" button ingame (disc version) quits without error message to WB, when a global quitkey=$11a (play+rw+rv) it set. Normally (with keyboard quitkey) it should be Play = Pause

Not sure if this is similar to your Rainbow Islands report, but again the slave has its own CD32 pad support. As mentioned in the other report:

"Using buttons from a joypad ($103..$10a/$113..$11a) as a QuitKey will make it impossible for the installed program to detect/check/use a joypad. The installed program will think a joystick is connected. This is because of some hardware limitations that the joypad can only checked once during a 1/50 second. So dont use it for games which require a joypad."

I'm less certain why pressing Play would quit you to workbench in this situation - but it could be interference from WHDL doing CD32 pad reads itself. Again, solution should be the same as Rainbow Islands - override quitkey with a keyboard code like $59/$5d, so slave's own CD32 pad support can work again.

Just wanted to say that the Speed of this Game is all over the place, literally :)
Some blitter waits would help.
On WinUAE it´s almost unplayable other than a bare bone A500 config.
On real Hardware with a 68020 and Fast-Ram it goes also from Slow to VERY FAST, depending on the scene.
Would be neat if you could fix that "speed issue".

You will see in the zip folder there is a Devs folder and C folder. On your main system HDD in your Amiga you will also have a Devs folder and C folder amongst others such as Libs, L, S and more. If you have a way of copying the files from your PC to your Amiga, such as PCMCIA CF, adf or write them to a disk; the zip DEVS folder files are to be copied into the DEVS folder on your HDD and the files in the zip C folder are to be copied into the C folder on your HDD also. Then restart your Amiga.

Ok. Unzip the zip file and put it on your desktop. In Winuae Settings, go to "CD & Hard Drives" click it and then click "Add Directory or Archive". Then in the new window fill out "Device Name" as DH3: (DH0: is usually the WB and you want something else), "Volume Label" as any title you recognize. Then Uncheck the (Bootable) box, you don't want to boot from your desktop!. Then in "Select Directory" click and select your Desktop (where the extracted zip file is).
Start WinUae and open the System drive on Workbench and open Devs and C. (If those folders are not showing - select Icons=>Show=>All files from the top Workbench menu while the System drive window is open. Then open your Desktop directory (that you've named) and open the unzipped folder to see the Devs and C folders in there. Open both of those. Then.... With the corresponding Devs and C folders open on your Workbench drive - click and hold down the mouse button on the files in the Desktop (named) folders (Devs C) and drag each to the matching Workbench Devs and C folders. Release button to drop each file in each window. Then.... F12 to go to Configuration settings and remove added Desktop drive. Save settings and restart. You should be good to go.

Working! :-) You can play now, but...

First part of the intro (the drops & Thalion logo) can be now quit with mouse, joystick & space.
Second part of the intro (Shambers of Shaolin logo) can be only quit with space.

Please try the attached Slave (It's a 1.21 version).

With that slave it works.
 
With Space Key, You can Quit the intro and the second part of the intro.

I tried it with :

1) my A500 ACA500Plus 68000 WB3.1 WHDLoad 18.9 Beta
2) my A1200 GVP1230 Turbo+II 68030 @ 40 Mhz Wb 3.1

Hi Pascal, I tried with the new 1.21 Slave above but the same problem. The Space bar does not bypass the second title screen.

Sometimes I get an "Illegal Instruction $10" crash after the first title screen. I am using an NTSC A2000 so I tried the PAL tooltype but same problem.

I also tried using WinUAE and 2.04 ROM and same problem.

I replaced the LHA file in the C directory within the OS partition. It is simply called LHA and it can be downloaded from Aminet. Here, I have uploaded the file if anyone else needs it. Just replace the existing file in the C directory if you have problems.

Map graphics are corrupted
The map graphics are corrupted. They look like binary. It appears that the wrong files are being read or they are corrupted.
Load the game. You can see the problem in View or Game mode.

Hi Guys.

I was trying to play this classic but with the Map Scrolling this bad
it´s almost unplayable.
Map Scrolling with the NumPad feels so unresponsive and sluggish.

Not every press is getting registered and you cant hold the Key.

Night and day compared to Pop2. (there you also can use the cursor keys)

Maybe you can fix this, that would be amazing ! :)

I played the game for over 30 years without knowing how to use the Items (Time&Bomb)

Yesterday, late at night, i was reading the manual and it states
"Press Space bar" for using Time or Bomb".

So, i finally found out !!
Can you believe this... i played for over 30 years and i just found out how to use those items.

Is actually a quarter Circle.

Keep pressing the fire button and make a quarter circle downwards.
(when giana faces right, starting right to down.
Like a reversed street fighter move Hadouken move)

A Problem that i found out is, that when i use the Mouse in the menu, "in Games movies sequences" to get "off" from "on" i can't set it back and other thing i can't change same like that.
My Joystick is after this complete without function and the only thing i can do is use the quitkey
When i only use my joystick and his buttons, this problem isnt there, is that normally or a Bug ?

Graphic corruption on A1000
Hello,
With a standard A1000 + ACA500 + 512KB chipram there are graphic glitches around the character and soon after vertical lines appear on screen. I tested on two amiga 1000 with different chipram extension and it is the same. If I add an ACA1221 to the ACA500 the problem is still their.
I have an A1000 with a Rejuvenator and with the 2MB chip Agnus, the problem is gone.
So it seems that the problem is there only if original A1000 chipram is used. Thanks.

Sound glitches with fast CPUs
When playing Pushover on an accelerated Amiga, the music doesn't sound correct. Notes (and sound effects) are randomly skipped, and there's some occasional noise. The faster the CPU, the worse it sounds. Lowering the clock speed or disabling the accelerator card altogether seems to fix (or at least minimze) the problem.

I'm using Version 1.23 (27.11.2017) from the WHDLoad website. Just to confirm, I did a fresh install today and ran a couple of tests.

First I tested in FS-UAE and wasn't able to reproduce the sound issues in the emulator at all. No matter how fast I ran it, the sound was fine, so this seems to be an issue that happens on real hardware only.

Then I've tested on an A1200 with an ACA1233n, which has the advantage that I can run it at different clock speeds:
- 40 MHz gave me very notable sound glitches, some missing sound effects (especially in in the intro), dropouts in the music etc.
- 26 MHz improved it a little, but it was still notable.
- At even lower clock speeds it was still happening, but considerably better. Sound effects seemed to be mostly fine and I still got occasional missing notes in the music.

So, it seems to happen only on real hardware, and it seems to get worse with higher clock speeds. The game is running fine otherwise, no timing issues or anything.

Recently I've tested a TerribleFire 1260 card when I remembered this bug report. So I tried to run Pushover, and got the same audio problems with that card. So it's not limited to the ACA card, and with the 060 it's even worse, there's not much left of the music. Which seems to confirm that the sound glitches get worse the faster the CPU is.
Then I also tested with WinUAE, and while the sound is fine when I run it normally, with "chipset_hacks=0x8" it causes very similar audio dropouts.

I am using v1.2 WCLeaderboards&Data Disks. I found a way to make it work. On the course selection screen, if I select Parent Directory, the game crashes. But if I select DH, then I am presented with the same list of courses. I select one and it works. Seems to be an issue that the game cannot find the course if I don't select the drive first. I would now regard this as a minor issue. Maybe add a note to the Readme file.

BTW if I haven't mentioned it in a while, you guys are doing amazing work...thanks again!

I have used a saved state and same issue. I have since just used to standard floppy version and it works fine but for some reason the save games dont work correctly (they dont always save) but save states are find. I have made a longplay of it. Currently playing knight of the sword stream of missions.

Chaos Strikes Back v3.3 won't load giving error
Rawdic imager gives "too few bits in sector" for first 10 sectors of track 1.

slave quits with error saying disk file corrupted or unsupported version.

slave couldn't find disk.x files in data folder after install. I had to move them to main progdir.
always. Tried adf converted with Hxc from scp (working) renamed Disk.1 - no change.

Utility disk installed ok.

Please add options to allow preselecting a joystick or mouse for both players through the WHDload options.

To Fix this Mess of a Game and its Performance
Hi Psygore (T_T)

I "played" Star Trek 25 Anniversary today and i was SHOCKED on how bad it ran.
(i knew from back then, it was a mess but i did not remember HOW BAD it really was)

The thing is, the WHDLOAD Version runs exactly as shitty as the "normal way".

I mean, Breathless runs butter smooth in fullscreen (2x2),
Also Gloom, butter smooth , Nemac IV ect ...

Especially Wing Commander AGA (Cd32) that you fixed (THANK GOD) runs so fast that i have to use the "Speed down" feature in the WHdload Slave/Tooltypes. lol

So how on earth does this run so bad ? ( yes, total software .. even the Mouse movement is absolutly atrocious (x_x) .. all high language; i guess ... same as simon the sorcerer 2 )

But man o man... this is the worst thing somebody can play on an otherwise very nice Amiga.

Yes, i know, the Wing Commander C2P routines where fixed back in the day (1998) with the WCPatch (cant remember who done it), but Star Trek 25 anniversary (which is is a classic in my book) should deserved a similar threadment.

When people talk about this game (on amiga) , the performance comes always first and how it makes it unplayable ( besides an WinuAE JIT setting, which is cheating )

It combines two of my favorite thigs , Point and Click andventures and Space Action (there is a reason why i love Wing Commander so much)

Please, i beg you, could you do some of your Magic on this Amiga Version of this game ?

(what are the features in the current WHDLoad install anyway ???)

That would be so awesome to FIX this broken mess of a game.

BUG 3:
both games have some issue with keyboard shortcuts: C opens Camp menu, then R to Rest etc. and upper left keyboard key "\" (or ' son some keyboards) (0x00) if kept pressed seem to casue input freezes where only mouse movement is allowed and no LMB or RMB do work anymore after you play a bit with keyboard in Camp menu... Possibly keyboard interrupt issue?

I see now beta slave 0.3 won't crash anymore on "Quit the Game" from Options menu after you opened at least once automap (TAB).
It now resets the WHDLoad sandbox restarting from beginning (intro etc.) if you already opened the map (TAB), or will cleanly quit to WB if you didn't open the map before.

Details about previously reported bugs

BUG3 (7132): it seems to happen with EOB I AGA only, when pressing numpad numbers (e.g. 8=up...).

EOB I AGA gfx corruption (7131): confirmed it happens only after you open the automap at least once. Immediately after Loading game there is no corruption.

I also just noticed is still possible to switch front screen with AmigaOS combination LAMIGA+N or M. It should be removed (confusing!).

"Extra features" idea would still be a great addition... ;)
a) modern WASDQE as alternative movement keys (CUSTOMx ttype?). NOTE: the remap, in case, should be disabled when opening Camp menu or some keys will act as numpad up/down instead of shortcuts for submenus (R=Restore party, S=Memorize spells, etc.).
b) RMB on compass to open/close automap (just like TAB key)

Sound Timing is Off (better with Cache) - but there are gliches and Ttming in general is spotty
Well, not a "great game" but i have fond memorys of that duck tales game.

Sound/music has a hard time to keep timing
(it is basically a NTSC game that is played in Pal)

Its better with the CACHE option, but sometimes graphic glitches appear and the game runs like shi... well; lets say; pretty lousy.

Even back then i always wondered:
"why is Turrican so Smooth and duck tales run like trash? ".
Now i know but i have the feeling it runs even worse in the Whdload version.

Maybe something can be done to push that stuff into fast-mem to get better performance. Just saying.

Desert Strike - gfx glitch in Intro and Map (in-game)
Probably due too fast emulation on WinUAE (even though I tried up to 020!), the intro has some problems with circular fade-out effect too fast, leaving also some trashed lines/pixels on the left border, upper and lower part.

I think we need to open a specific tracker issue for the 'harmless enemies' bug with slave 4.0 or JOTD won't read it. This one is virtually closed since it wasn't a real bug but a problem of extended overscan normally invisible on real TVs in the good old days (and actually a bug in the original game).

The AGA Disk Slave does not support CACHE
The AGA Slave does not support CACHE and is slow because of that.

The Install is a bit weird anyway because the AGA Slave is years older then the Cd32 Slave that come in the same pack.

Please update the AGA Disk Slave.
A option for disabling the Mega Trainer would be neat too.

When you do a fix for Fears, could you get rid of that "bouncing effenct" when the player walks.

It makes me sick and i am not alone in this.

Normally i have no problem with motion sickness but this for some reason does gets me dizzy.

I think its simply too much for that FOV.

Would be very nice.

First, 1.1 ECS version requires Kick40068.a1200, that is non sense on an ECS system.
Next, if I provide the required KS, then same problem as Pascal De Maesneire appears on my CDTV : black screen and power/filter LED flashes showing that the game crashed. As the quitkey doesn't work, real reset is needed.

But I noticed strange keys issues: problems with joystick (with 2nd+ buttons) to change weapons: sometimes keys to switch weapon (?)/joy2 3rd button do nothing...
Request: use 2nd button = jump, but also disable UP to jump via WHD17 option in splash-screen.
There is no Pause key in this game?
I've also found (worth mentioning in the ReadMe):
SPACEBAR = select start level from main menu
F1 = quit to main menu
HELP = replenish lives (cheat!)
Request: add BUTTONWAIT when a new world starts to be able to read the text on fast machines (e.g. "Thor enters Alfheim, the first world on his journey to Hel.")

Bumping This One.

The game doesn't go past the Please insert Disk 2 screen on either WinUAE with the A1200 config set at 68020, 2MB Chip, 8MB Fast Ram, Cycle Exact or the A500 Mini 68040 @ 14mhz 8mb chip 128mb Fast. Both have WHDLoad 18.8 and I'm using Retroplay's Max_Rally_v1.1.lha set.

I get the same behaviour on both setups. I've pressed every key and it just sits there.

I just finished trying the 2 slaves.

ON my A1200 the 2 slaves are ok either in AGA mode or in DHW mode with the 2nd slave.

on the other hand its my A500 ACA500PLUS, I have the message "You need Chipmem up to $S150000 (1134 Kbyte) to run this program"

I know I only have an A500 rev.6 512k +512k in the trap door but with an Agnus 8372A.

Or precisely on the aca500plus in expert mode "F10" there is an option that emulates the 1MB RAM chip.

if I test the ADF files, in this expert mode with the chipmen option activated and a custom KS in this case the game starts and works correctly. I tested ADFs with KS 2.04, KS 2.05 (37.350) and KS 3.1 and it works.

On the other hand, still in this mode with KS 3.1.4, the game crashes.


Do you think you can stream there with an alternate slave for the ECS version. allowing options to launch the game correctly.

Animations are WAY to fast even with noCache
The Animations in this game are WAY too fast. Hilariously fast :)
(can easily be seen in the News Studio and pretty much all animations)

They are on ludicrous speed !!!!

When i use noCache it makes basically no difference and with ExpChip its so sluggish and slow to play that its no fun anymore.

Please Fix this classic. Please.
Smoother mouse controls would be neat too ;)

The Install Script has some issues and could throw beginners off
The Install Script has some issues. Lets go 1 by 1, ok ;)

1) IF the use chooses to install both Populous 2 & the Data disk (challenge Games)
then this leads to issues with the save function.

THE WORST CASE is when the user saves a game in "the challenge games" ....
This shows up in the Main pop2 game and if you load that one everything gets corrupt and the user is not able to play Pop2 Main any longer.

(only way to fix that is to delete the save game from the data folder)

2) If the user chooses the option to install each seperate then the Pop2 Main game isnastall is fine.


BUT, if he chooses to install the Challenge Games sperate it will copy a Icon with the wrong infos (it searches for the challengegames.slave)

This is wrong, because first off, the challenge games salve is outdated and needs the OSEmu.400 file which is not inclued.

Instead it shoul copy the Populous2.slave to the ChallengeGames folder with the correct ToolType.

A beginner could be absolute confused by all that.
Maybe you can change that someday.

I was in a hurry and those damn wireless keyboard does me no favor either ;)

PS: there is also one instant where you get an dos Error when trying to load a game in pop2. (but i cant remember on top of my head in which order things have to be done to get that one)

In any case, this install should be fixed for beginners.
They might thing "ohh.. i doesnt work".

PPS: There are also a few installs that doesnt crate a save folder,
even if they should and the game fails then because of that ; if people trying to save the game.

I can remember Pirates Gold, Subwar 2050 and the Football manager "on the ball" right on the spot. The folder should have the name of the Zero Byte Dummy.

This is no problem for older folks but Amiga Newbies will think... oh "this dosent work either".

Please look at those if you have time.

When time of day changes (from day to night) the game blocks. By the look of the pointer it can be assumed that the game wants to "read" something but it does nothing.

The problem occurs in the IPF version (game version 1.023). It also occurs when you play from floppies so it looks like some broken resource file.
1. Restore the attached gamesave named "126p fruit"
2. Type "jump" several times until your character reaches the end of the screen in order to progress to the next one.
3. When the loading process starts you will get a screen indicating that the day-time has ended and it is going to be a night-time.
4. And nothing can be done to continue...

I do not have any idea how read a third button from a normal joystick, never seen a 3-button one. And as this is not interesting to do, I will not spend any time on this request. 2-button joystick and CD32 pad support is more than enough in my opinion.

Missing graphical effect
The Graphic effect for the thunder strike is missing.
(should be in level 1,2 and so on )

You can hear the thunder, but the grapical effect is simply not there.

Yeah silly me, only did a quick test.

There is NO Thunder "flashing" effect that is missing !!
It´s a flashing screen because the ship has some "electrical issues" and they are pretty random.

Sorry Sting, my fault.

But you know, if you ever come back to this a Second button funtion fould be neat.

MFM version would be nice, but it is not required for updating the patch. So far, all versions of the game seem to use the same disk format, so I'm pretty sure, the RawDIC imager will work with the PAL version too. Thanks for your efforts, appreciated. :)

Fixing Polish flag?
Hello

It's nice game, but have one minor (but major for Polish people) bug. Polish flag is shown like vertical, but other ones are horizontal.

Is possible to turn Polish flag by 90 degrees?
Just run game and chose Polish prisoner.

Remove "anti-cheat" mechanic regarding gold
I concluded following behavior by playing from floppy disks and comparing character files in hex editor:

In the guild, when a character is added to party, the game writes to it's character file zeroing all the gold. The character still has the gold in-game and the game keeps track of it, but it's not written back to character files until clicking "Leave game" in the guild.

So the game keeps party gold hostage until they make it back to the guild. Reset during a misadventure results zero gold for whole party.

Trainer option to prevent this would be nice for less hardcore players.

b. save also the location on quit and let you continue from where you left off ignoring original frustrating savegame system

Then you didn't install the game on a real Amiga. The file name contains a space at the end and if you got a preinstalled version from somewhere and extracted it in Windows environment, the file will not be read correctly. Please extract on a real Amiga (or emulated environment) and the problem should be solved.

Game has heavy graphic & sound glitches
The game has some serious graphic and sound glitches.
Tried a few configs and FPGA.

Always the same. It has so many glitches and runs waaaay to fast.
NoCACHE doesnt seem to help.

It´s unplayable :(

A Fix would be really nice.

Brain Blasters Slave Version 1.2 - intro/titlescreen not visible
After starting Brain Blasters (slave Version 1.2) the intro sequence and titlescreen doesn't appear. The screen stays black but the intro music plays.
After the end of the intro music the game menue appears and I could select and play the game without problems.

I also tested the game with OCS/ECS chipsets but intro/title screen stays black.

Imager didn't take more than 1 file with the same hash into account when saving directory data, this has been fixed, file "icon3" is saved now. Manual has been included as well.
